When you look at the history of craft beer in the US, one name is always front and center. Anchor Steam. What started as a regional brewery, it some how found a way to survive (barely) through the period of time when those breweries were badly beaten by the rise of the big national breweries, Fritz Maytag cam along in the mid 1960’s, fell in love with the brewery and purchased it. From then on Fritz and Anchor played a big part in the brewing renaissance of the 70’s.
