It’s been cold here in the Northeast US the last few days. I wanted to add some hints to that in this whiskey pour photograph. A blue gel on the light left illuminating the glass and a bounce card on the right to give the glass a blue tint. The drop was pure serendipity and I decided to keep it in the photo.
Planat Cognac
This is my first real look at Cognac. While a kind of brandy, cognac presents many different flavors, including spicy, fruity, sweet, and bitter. It’s flavor can also be greatly changed by the different temperatures at which it can be enjoyed. Now that I have created the photograph of this Planet Cognac, you can be sure I am going to spend a lot of time experiencing the flavors it has to offer.
Guten Tag! Y'All!
It's Octoberfest time! The weather is getting crisp. All kinds of flavors and scents are popping up around us. It’s a great time of the year and a great time for beer! This Octoberfest Marzen from Ayinger is excellent! Plus check out that cap! Once I saw it, I knew I had to photograph it and then drink it. Cheers.
Lagunitas Cap
When I saw the dog logo and the deep red of the cap on this Lagunitas Ale, I knew I wanted to photograph it. With a little clear coat over the cap and some glycerine and water mix to create the condensation, I created this with two lights , one on each side. The light camera left was the key light, so a bit brighter than the one camera right.
Cascade Vine
It’s hop harvesting season. Pretty soon we are going to get the wet hop IPA’s hitting the stores. Local breweries will be receiving fresh hops from local growers. Other businesses will start featuring hop flavored products. It’s a great time of the year for this reason. Here’s a vine of cascade hops from the Fir Fram in Colts Neck, New Jersey and three beers ready for you to drink.
Anchor Steam Beer
When you look at the history of craft beer in the US, one name is always front and center. Anchor Steam. What started as a regional brewery, it some how found a way to survive (barely) through the period of time when those breweries were badly beaten by the rise of the big national breweries, Fritz Maytag cam along in the mid 1960’s, fell in love with the brewery and purchased it. From then on Fritz and Anchor played a big part in the brewing renaissance of the 70’s.
Drink Up
I made this photograph at a recent series of photo shoots at Pepperjack’s Grill on Staten Island. They’ve got signature drinks they make at the bar and this was one of them. It tasted as good as it looked.
Tennessee Whiskey...neat
One of the big “discussion” points among whiskey drinkers is "neat or on the rocks”. I have to say I dont have a preference. I usually go by what I feel like at the moment. I wanted this photograph to be clean and graphic. Straight lines and even light. Adding ice isn’t going to give you that look. I drank the whiskey afterwards of course. It’s very rare for me to waste a good beverage of any kind. Cheers!
