With the name Von Trapp you have to avoid the temptation to break in to song. They do make a real solid Oktoberfest. I’ll have to try some of their other beers or better yet make the trip to their brewery in Vermont. The “leaves” are tortilla chips from Trader Joes. The goal of the photograph was to say “autumn”. The hills are alive….
Get in to a Martini
Wanted to get a small bubble on the detail of the martini photograph I made the other day. First a lot of stirring, that didn’t do it. A small straw and a little blowing in to the drink go the job done.
Good to the Last Drops
I’ve been having fun with splashes and motion the last couple of weeks. I’d forgotten how much fun it can be making a mess with liquids and making photographs of them. Plans in the works to do a whole lot more.
Rob Roy with a splash
Scotch, vermouth and bitters. Created at the Waldorf-Astoria in 1894 to celebrate a new opera based on Robert Roy’s life.
The Macallan
The Macallan. Since 1824 known for the mastery of wood and spirit. I love the colour, according to the Whisky Maker’s notes it’s Harvest Sun. Plus it’s very very smooth and delicious. Cheers!
12 Years Old
This bottle of scotch is from one of the elite brands. When I approached this one I wanted to create a dreamy feeling, almost ethereal for it. Focusing on the 12 year label, using a very shallow depth of field and then giving it a little more haze in post processing got it there. What bottle is it? Find out for sure next time.
Take time to recharge
Every now and then you need to take some time to recharge and power back up. Getting away and doing other things is a great way to go. I had almost forgotten how good travel can be for the soul. I’ve always found it to revitalize me. I’ve also started to add some different things to my diet. I’d heard about kombucha and decided to give it a try. It’s good on it’s own, but it also makes a good cocktail mixer ;)
Foam it up
I’ve been gone for a couple of weeks. We did something amazing since the time of Covid and took a family vacation again. It’s good to get away and recharge from time to time, something I had almost forgotten. Getting back, I wanted to get back behind the camera again. The vacation had recharged me and had me itching to make photographs again. For this one, it was back to the basics. Just a beer and a macro lens. Get above it it and as close as possible and still be able to get focus. I do really love my macro lenses. One light, up and to the left, scraping across the top of the beer to get the contrast across the foam and bubbles. Cheers!
Cognac for Two
It’s Friday. Find someone you love, or even like a little, and have a drink to celebrate the fact that you made it through another week. My goal when making this image was to get a nice smooth light across the glassware and enough on the person holding the tray. Lots of times I will look to create a couple of images and merge them in Photoshop. Not this one, one photograph with some simple clean up in post-processing. Enjoy !
