It has been a lot of fun working with Clear Cut Ice Co’s ice the last couple of weeks. It truly is clear and works very well in drinks I’ve been creating and photographing. I wanted to create one that was simply the ice, with nothing around it. No glasses, no liquids. But, I guess having no liquid around ice is technically impossible.
Get this drink to your lips
End of the day, all your work is done. Your bar is near the window where the setting sun is coming through. You get out your clear ice and make yourself a drink to unwind with. That is the setting I wanted to create in making this photograph.
Session IPA from Zywiec of Poland
You don’t see a lot of IPA’s from other countries in my local beer store so when you see another one, I’ll give it a go. This is a solid beer and if you see one in your local store, check it out.
Always be a gentleman
Or a gentlewoman too. Trying to figure out what else to put in this photograph had me a little at first. Then I thought of the scenario. I’m just home from an event when I had to wear a suit or tux, had French cuffs on and needed to use the cufflinks. Before I went up to change, I stopped at my bar and poured a whiskey but before I took my first sip, my jacket came off, my cufflinks came off and sleeves rolled up one fold. Then I drank it. Cheers.
Head
The creamy head of a Guinness Stout. Yum, yum, yum. I wanted to showcase the bubbles that make up the foam. A 100mm macros lens did the trick for this photograph. Then I drank it. Tum, yum, yum.
Long Trail Ale
I first heard of this beer on a trip to Maine years ago. Within the last year or so, I’ve started to see it in my local store, on and off. It’s a clean easy drinking ale with a real nice balance. Named after a hiking path, it does make a great end to day’s hike.
I'll pour you a drink
For this photograph, I wanted to create a birds eye view of what it could look like if you made a drink all at once with both hands. Dropping in the ice cube, while pouring the drink in over it. It’s a composite image, created with three photographs. One for the background, one with the glass and ice and another with the pour. The pour photo took about 200 tries to get once that looked just right.
Pop Open a Head High
Kane Brewing makes a great West Coast Style IPA, Head High. When ever I am in their area, I stop by and pick up a few four packs. On the way home, I cannot wait to pop one open. That was the feeling I wanted to get when I made this photograph. The moment of lifting that tab and getting that little bit of beer to jump out.
Fire Flower
Since I spend most of my time photographing liquids of one form or another, I thought I’d change it up during some down time I had during the holidays with some ink. Drops of acrylic ink, two different colors this time around, in to a clear fish tank full of water. Click the shutter and then have a good time in Photoshop with backgrounds and textures.
