I really like Sportsball from Alementary Brewing, it’s so good. Along with it here’s my favorite sportsball. Growing up I was (and still am) a huge baseball fan and the Yankees were my team. Summer of 1982 my Grandfather was visiting a friend in Florida. The friend’s neighbor was having a barbecue and invited them over. The neighbor was also Joe DiMaggio’s cousin. Joe was very gracious and offered to sign baseballs for them (he did that very rarely). With his baseball, my Grandfather chose to get his Grandson a baseball signed and personalized by the Yankee Clipper. Needless to say almost 40 years later it is still a prized possession. Not only because of the autograph but also because my Grandfather got it for me.
Why whiskey? Taste!
I’m old enough to remember when whiskey wasn’t cool. During the 80s and 90s, it was too heavy, too old. Your grandfather drank whiskey. My god, the world was dumb and missing out. Whiskey is a complex drink, created for complex people in complex times. It is sophisticated and yet approachable. More important it has taste and isn’t that the most important thing for beverages? Sure hydration is important and water has that covered. But when you want taste, reach for a whiskey.
Single Malt Scotch, neat!
Visiting the Isle of Skye last fall really awakened a fondness for Scottish Whiskey. I learned a lot about how it is made, the history of it and it’s connection to the land and the region. I knew I wanted to make a photograph of it and found I couldnt wait to drink it once it was done.
Pez
Pez. Sometimes you have to dispense with the dispenser. In these days of social distancing, when you have time on your hands to make a photograph, you use what you have handy.
Dogfish Head Cap
This is what happens when you’re drink the beer before you make the photograph of the beer. All you have left to photograph is the cap.
Coke...The Icon
When you think about iconic brands, there’s nothing as well known as Coca-Cola. Anywhere you go in the world, you will see the red with white lettering. It’s a beverage practically everyone has some level of experience with. When I thought about making a photograph of Coke, I wanted the vintage feel as it has been around so long.
Sazerac
The Sazerac, created and perfected in New Orleans. Rye with a coating of absinthe, Angostura and Peychaud's bitters, a crushed sugar cube and lemon twist. With Peggy as my model, this photograph was just as much fun to make as the Sazerac was to drink. So good!
Pulled Pork
It took 6 hours to smoke it. About an hour to photograph it. Then about 10 minutes to eat it. So good. If you don’t already have one, get yourself a smoker.
Ice Coffee with Cream
Since going out at the moment isn’t an option, to get your daily coffee intake, you have to make sure you have all the ingredients in house and ready to go. When we went shopping the other day, we got one of the last containers of half & half. We might get to the point of black coffee real soon. Just in case, I wanted to make a photograph of coffee with cream just in case it becomes a thing of the past soon.
